My favorite fall decor pieces to cozy up your natural modern home
Designer-approved decor trends for an organic modern fall aesthetic in your desert home
Fall is here!! Which, for desert dwellers, offers a literal breath of fresh air that is much needed after what seems like the endless summer.
A new season of cool hikes along Oak Creek, trips to the vineyard, and plush sweaters always revitalizes me and inspires me. And I always find myself embracing that energy and leaning into the seasonal joy by refreshing my home!
But let’s face it – traditional fall decorations can often feel cheesy or kitschy, cluttering your space with fleeting trends. For a desert home (especially in Sedona!) where the landscape's natural elegance already speaks volumes and features warm fall colors – a natural modern fall aesthetic offers a sophisticated alternative.
By focusing on clean, simple, and classic elements, you can achieve a timeless organic modern interior style that not only complements your unique environment but also feels sophisticated and understated. A curated approach helps your fall decor remain both beautiful and functional – seamlessly integrating into your home year after year.

What are my favorite organic modern fall decor trends for 2024?
Interior design trends for fall 2024 are embracing a blend of cozy comfort and modern sophistication. Here are some ideas to consider:
Warm Earthy Tones
Rich, earthy colors – think: deep browns, rust, terracotta, and mustard – are making a strong comeback. These hues create a warm, inviting atmosphere perfect for fall in your natural modern home.
Textured Fabrics
Varied textures have always been key to creating a natural organic modern living room! Layering different textures is especially big this season. Think velvet cushions, chunky knit throws, corduroy accents and plush shaggy rugs. These add depth and cozy comfort to your space.
Sustainable Materials
There continues to be a growing emphasis on eco-friendly and sustainable materials – a trend I hope will stay for good! Look for furniture and decor made from rough-hewn wood, recycled materials, and organic fabrics. And don’t forget that if you’re looking for pieces with history, estate sales and international sellers can offer a host of hidden gems.

Nature-Inspired Accents
Incorporating natural elements is key. This includes botanical prints, wooden furniture, and decorations inspired by the outdoors. Greenery, whether real or faux, also plays a big role.
Cozy Lighting
This is the chance to lean into all the warm fuzzy feelings of the season. Swap bulbs or add dimmer switches for moodier overhead lighting. Or, opt to just have a single lamp or sconce while watching a movie or reading a book. Lounge lighting should be soft, not direct overhead. Think lots of candles, or a fire going in the fireplace.
Mixing Modern and Vintage
Combining contemporary pieces with vintage finds creates a layered, personalized look. Modern, clean lined furniture paired with unique finds from estate sales or resale. They lend character and personality, and offer a beautiful contrast of silhouettes.

Layered Entryway Rugs
Layering rugs of different sizes and textures can add visual interest and warmth to your floors. While this can sometimes become too visually cluttered or feel too “boho” in larger spaces, a couple of smaller rugs in your entryway or foyer can feel inviting, cozy, and playful.
Bold Patterns
Don’t shy away from patterns as an accent this fall. Geometric designs, dark florals, abstract prints, and traditional patterns can all add character to your interior.

Rustic Charm
Elements like reclaimed wood in tasteful and modern silhouettes, and simple modern wrought iron fixtures bring a cozy, rustic feel to your space.

Tailoring spaces to individual needs and preferences is more important than ever. Custom interior design services can help create a space that truly reflects your style.
